Job Description

Core Duties:

  • Assisting carpenters and lead hands with framing, roofing, and decking tasks
  • Measuring, cutting, and fastening lumber and materials under supervision
  • Loading, unloading, and organizing building materials on-site
  • Site cleanup and waste removal throughout the day
  • Operating basic hand tools and power tools when authorized and supervised 
  • Holding, bracing, and supporting materials during installation
  • Carrying materials to and from work areas (lumber, plywood, shingles, etc.)
  • Following all safety procedures, wearing required PPE at all times
  • Taking direction from the foreman, lead hand, and other crew members

Key Expectations:

  • Willingness to learn and take instruction
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality
  • Physically capable of lifting 50+ lbs and working outdoors in all weather
  • Comfortable working at heights (roofing, scaffolding)
  • Valid driver's licence is an asset
  • No experience required — training provided on-site

Qualifications

Required:

  • Enrolled in or recently completed a relevant post-secondary program (carpentry, building construction, trades, or similar)
  • Physically able to perform demanding outdoor labour (lifting 50+ lbs, working on feet all day)
  • Reliable transportation to job sites (or willingness to meet at a central pickup point)
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn

Other

Training & Development:

  • Hands-on training working alongside the crew
  • Opportunity to log hours toward a carpentry apprenticeship if enrolled
  • Letter of reference at the end of the summer

Other:

  • Performance-based raise after a few weeks if they're pulling their weight
  • Potential to come back next summer or move into a full-time role
  • PPE provided (hard hat, vest, glasses — students must provide their own boots)
