Job Title: IT Help Desk / Service Desk Specialist (Level 1)

Rate/Salary: Upon Graduation – Rate range is $20-23/hour

Start Date: Training Starts – Sept/Oct 2025. Graduation – November 2025

Duration: Contract: 12+ months (Extendable)

Location: Toronto (GTA) & Ottawa

Job Description

Role Responsibilities: Our client is a Federal Government Department that is seeking Help Desk/ Service Desk Specialists for a variety of multi-year projects located in Toronto (GTA) & Ottawa. These positions are ‘Symbiotic Academy – Indigenous Train-to-Hire’ positions and qualified applicants are eligible for a scholarship and training program acceptance that will enable them to obtain a CompTIA A+ Certification to be job ready for these positions. (***See Academy). We are seeking Trainee Candidates who have an interest and aptitude for business and technology, who are willing to learn, and commit to the completion of their training and subsequent employment.

Job Description: Outlined below is a description of this ‘Academy - Train to Hire’ position for a ‘Help Desk / Service Desk Specialist’.

Technical Criteria:

  • Conducting network problem analysis and monitoring tasks
  • performing user reported initial problem analysis and preliminary issue triage.
  • Recording user-reported information technology issues in an incident tracking System.
  • Developing, implementing, and/or participating in the preparation of procedure manuals and documentation for help desk use; conducting periodic user satisfaction surveys and track user problem trends
  • Developing, implementing, and/or participating in the distribution of network related information to users to include information such as help desk procedures and network handbooks
  • Participating in the development of a comprehensive training plan for help desk procedures; assisting in training personnel Provide end user support for desktop and mobile applications: Office 365, Outlook etc.
  • Troubleshoot network/connectivity issues
  • Provision and support hardware - desktop/laptop/mobile
  • Support other business-specific applications as needed Provide support for printers Resolve assigned tickets and escalate to Tier 2/3 support as needed.
  • Technical Training or Experience: Applicants will be exposed to the following exciting career path opportunities:
    • Working as Help Desk Specialist in an IT service desk environment, providing IT-related first-line support to more than 100 users.
    • Supporting user in a Microsoft Office/Office365 environment
    • Gain experience with Help Desk Information Technology Service Management (ITSM) tools such as Axios Analyst, Remedy, etc.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Must have: University degree in ANY discipline or a »¢Ñ¨ÊÓÆµDiploma in Engineering, IT, Project management, or Business Administration. Equivalent education and experience will be considered.
  • Nice to have: University Degree in Engineering/Mathematics/ Science/ Project Management/Business Administration
  • Lived Experience: Indigenous lived experience is an integral part of this position. The role will have a close relationship with the Indigenous Community in Canada and for Government of Canada positions that are part of the PSIB-Procurement Strategy for Indigenous Business or IPP-Indigenous Participation Plans. Candidates will be required to have Indigenous lived experience from Canada’s Indigenous community to perform the role.
